It's My Lazy Day and I been road trip planning, like many things in life, is harder than it looks. The fantasy is the idea of just jumping in your car and heading off to experience wonderful adventures. Any problems? They'll just turn into hilarious stories you'll be able to tell everyone.
Like everyone who reads my blog knows that travel is my passion - and I can tell you that it's just not that simple.Taking the time to plan your trip can make the difference between a great vacation full of fun and adventure,
and a disastrous detour down the wrong place, one you wouldn't wish on an enemy.
I am such a Under-packer but in heaven on airplanes and trains with my tiny bags and miniature toiletries. Being forced to buy things if they need them on their trip is worth it to not have to drag around heavy bags.
But when it comes to a road-trip, it just doesn’t make sense to under-pack. Having to shop on the road takes time away from sightseeing and other fun activities, and though there’s not an endless amount of room in the car
(as the over-packer which is my friend Susanne.
Here we go here is my travel packing list for the road trip:
- Online map and directions for the route you’ve mapped out, road maps for the states we be passing through,
- and printed hotel reservation confirmations also reservation confirmation information and print-outs for the attractions or restaurants we have booked.
- First-aid kit
- Road-side emergency kit.
- Road trip games/materials and any music
- Every kind of battery charger (cell phone, digital camera, MP3, etc.)
- Flashlight with fresh batteries.
- Spending money – small amount of money in cash and ATM card to get more cash.
- Clothes for every day of the trip extra socks and underwear, sleepwear, robe and slippers. Roll the clothes to prevent wrinkles. a pair of excellent walking shoes/sneakers.
- Books and other reading material. So I dont go too crazy.
- Grooming items like Clearasil, facial cleansing items, teeth cleaning items including toothbrush, paste and floss, hair-care items and styling tools, shaving tools and lotions,and perfume.
- Glasses, contact lenses, and other items for the eyes.
- Tweezers – I always end up using these for something and never leave home without this handy tool.
- Sun block and hats to protect against sunburn, and aloe gel.
- Hand sanitizer and hand lotion (small bottles).
- Ice scraper for windows if your trip will be in the winter/cold location.
- Scissors, corkscrew/bottle opener, and a small knife. A compass if car doesn’t have a built-in one or if you plan on doing any hiking.
- One large blanket and pillow – this is very cozy when cold, but it’s wonderful for napping and doubles as a picnic blanket.
- One large towel
- Laptop, Cameras,chargers and usb cable
- Snacks and beverages for the trip. some tasty sandwiches or other delicious food for the road
- Napkins (or use paper towels) and plastic utensils for any meals on the road/in rest areas. couple of garbage bags for collecting the trash.
- Umbrellas and rain gear – it’s a good idea to get lightweight ponchos with hoods that can be bunched up and don’t take up a lot of room.
- Small air-freshener for motels that smell a little moldy and other not-so-sweet smells.
- Bathing suits for swimming in hotel pools or wherever we going that may offer a chance to use them.
- Sunglasses
- Address & Important Phone Numbers
- Travel alarm clock with fresh batteries.
- Extra jackets/sweaters for those times that it’s colder than expected. Coats, gloves, hats, boots, and scarves if it might be significantly cold.
